Key Information

Established in 2009 as a response to the conflict in Gaza that destroyed numerous schools and universities, Al Fakhoora launched its first projects, a diverse set of initiatives ranging from emergency medical assistance, rebuilding institutes of higher learning damaged in the war, providing psycho-social support for children and youth, establishing vocation programs for students with disabilities, and awarding comprehensive scholarships for marginalized youth. Directly touching the lives of over 300,000 children and youth, as well as impacting the infrastructure at every level, Al Fakhoora has grown to become a comprehensive and vital support system for education in Gaza. Al Fakhoora’s reconstruction and rehabilitation programmes have reconstructed, refurbished and maintained 102 educational institutes in Gaza, including universities, colleges, technical institutes and public and private schools. Our psychosocial programmes have provided training and support for students, teachers, and families throughout Gaza. Al Fakhoora’s Dynamic Futures Gaza Programme offers access to higher education for marginalised youth through a comprehensive scholarship, student affairs, civic leadership, and economic empowerment programme. This is delivered in collaboration with local and national partners. Following the success of our higher education and empowerment scholarship programme in Gaza, Al Fakhoora has begun replicating this approach on a multi-country scale. Dynamic Futures has expanded to six new regions to support Palestinians in the West Bank, and Syrian IDPs and refugees in Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. In the next five years, the Dynamic Futures programme will enable 7,385 refugee students and internally displaced persons to access quality education, with an emphasis on civic leadership development, student services and economic empowerment – opportunities which will transform their lives.
