Key Information

The Second Chance program employs an innovative, accelerated learning pedagogy–as well as supplemental programs in the community–to enable older children who have been kept out of school to get a second chance at an education. To date, the Second Chance program has enabled over 118,000 children across Africa to get back to school. The Luminos Fund currently operates the Second Chance program in Ethiopia–where it is known as Speed School–and Liberia. The Second Chance program employs an intensive, child-centered approach to reach the most marginalized populations, children denied an education due to poverty, conflict, or discrimination. Program components include an accelerated learning curriculum, community mobilization and capacity building.
